Shirburn: Located above the beautiful village of Runswick Bay on the North Yorkshire coast. Assistance with route planning available on request. Runswick Bay: Turn left from Shirburn along to the end of Ellerby Lane. Turn right and right again to approach the top of Runswick Bay bank. Looking over to the left, an alternative footpath down to the bay can be found behind the Cliffe Mount Hotel. Within Runswick Bay you will find easy access to the long sandy beach via the recently reconstructed promenade. Car parking and Cafe are nearby. North Yorkshire Moors Railway: The country's most popular heritage railway. The 18 mile line runs through the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, between the market town of Pickering and the village of Grosmont stopping off at Levisham, Goathland and Grosmont Stations. home of Captain Cook and Bram Stoker's Dracula, lies 6 miles south of
Shirburn. The ancient port of Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk.
You may like to visit Whitby Abbey with its unusual underground museum
and tourist centre. Take a sea trip on the old Whitby Lifeboat or one
of the many organized fishing trips. Take a walk along Queen Anne Staithe
and the harbour side where you will find fish restaurants, interesting
little pubs and of course the amusement arcades. Over the river on the
west side of Whitby you will find the old market place where Whitby Jet
can be purchased or Oak Smoked Whitby Kippers. Goathland and Beck Hole:
7 miles SW of Whitby is Goathland
the home of 'Heartbeat'. Visit the 'Aidensfield Arms' and 'Bernie &
Vernon Scripts' garage. Take a short walk to the steam rail station and
go to Grosmont or Pickering, or just stroll around the village and take
in the beautiful scenery. 20 minutes walk down the hill you will find
Beck Hole, a quaint hamlet with a unique little pub by the river. Try
their home made pies and pickle helped down with a glass of Black Sheep
real ale. Sandsend: Located
at the foot of Lythe bank 5 miles south of Shirburn, a picturesque village
with cottages set against a backdrop of cliffs and two meandering streams
which lead to the sea. Here can be found a good family beach that stretches
2 miles to Whitby pier. Adjacent is a large car park. On weekends and
Wednesdays it is possible to walk in the grounds of Mulgrave Castle and
see the partly renovated castle ruins. Families can walk the 'Sandsend
trail' an interesting little walk set on the allum cliffs above the carpark.
Visit the 'Whits End' café and sample the home made fare or the
unusual 'Estbeck House' fish Restaurant. Robin Hoods Bay:
A beautiful little fishing village
with an attractive collection of red-roofed cottages nestled into the
cliff tops, clinging to the ravine which leads to the slipway at the beach.
Noted for its bookshops, craft shops and quaint little eating places.
Tea rooms, pubs and a fish and chip shop make this a popular spot with
tourists. For walkers there is the 3.5 miles walk to Ravenscar along the
